Artistic Statement
Research and art, in my personal practice, are interwoven and counter-influential. As a researcher and as an artist I am extremely interested in taking my knowledge and understanding of movement and applying it to different needs and applications. My work is interdisciplinary and collaborative. I lean towards working in collaborative groups because I believe that it provides more potential for the emergence of new ideas and approaches to common problems.
My choreography and artistic explorations are often influenced by research methodologies and practices. Psychology has often been an influence and building point for my work. Recently I have begun to specifically explore the ethical implications of conducting research on human subjects. My goal with this work is not to come to some conclusion about the ethical ideal for human-based research, but to create environments and situations in which the debate is open for question and audiences can reflect on their own opinions about the practice.
